Flowstar make RF level switch is an industrial device designed for reliable level measurement and control in bins, silos, and vessels containing solids, slurries, or liquids, regardless of whether they are conductive or non-conductive. It operates on the radio frequency (RF) admittance principle and is especially useful in environments with challenging process conditions like coating, ratholing, mechanical damage, or high temperatures.

 Working Principle and Construction

• The core components of the Flowstar RF level switch (FERF 200 series) are a sensing probe and a remote electronic controller.
• The probe contains two sections: an active section and a shield section, insulated from each other, with no electronics or moving parts inside the probe itself.
• The electronics (controller) are housed separately in a dust- and weather-proof enclosure and connect to the probe via a coaxial cable. This setup enhances reliability in harsh environments and eliminates issues from coating or mechanical stresses.
• The device works by transmitting low-power RF signals to both probe sections, comparing changes in the material around the probe to determine the presence or absence of material at the measured level.
• The switch output is typically a relay (SPST or DPDT type), used for alarms or controls.

• Typical applications include coal-based thermal power plants, where it helps detect levels in challenging bulk material handling scenarios.
